Virgil was a stage magician who performed at The Strand Theatre in London. Alfred Borden worked for Virgil, shifting props. He performed a show that involved an orange trick, and making birds in cages disappear and reappear. His show was attended by Sarah Borden and her nephew, and the nephew started crying when the bird disappeared, as he believed Virgil had killed it.
